Use frame and glass lists
Frame lists, optimized cut lists, glass lists and glass size reduction.
Who can do this: Anyone in your company who can open the project. The proposal must be Finalized. Cut list Settings and Optimization don't show once the project is closed.
The Frame and Glass tabs list the framing (the metal pieces that hold the glass) and the glass the job needs. They open once you finalize the proposal.
On both tabs, click the view name at the top of the tab to switch lists. Use the units menu to change how sizes are shown, and Print to print the list. See Print drawings and lists.
Frame list
- Open the project, then open the proposal.
- Click the Frame tab.
- Choose Frame list.
Each framing piece shows its Part, Part number, Finish, Size, Component, Elevation (the drawing of one opening it belongs to) and Location.
Frame cut list
The cut list plans how to cut each framing part from stock lengths (the full-length bars you buy), so you waste as little as possible.
- On the Frame tab, choose Frame cut list.
- Wait while it loads. Large jobs can take a moment.
The table at the top shows each part with its Saw (blade thickness), Optimized size (the stock length chosen), Stocks needed, Effective yield, Job yield, True yield, Total pieces and Length of pieces. Below it, each part has cutting instructions: one table per stock length, listing the pieces to cut from it with their length, elevation, component, location and project.
Yield is the share of the stock that ends up in finished pieces:
- Effective yield doesn't count the largest drop (leftover piece).
- Job yield doesn't count that the largest leftover could be used on another project.
- True yield counts every leftover as waste.
The cut list is saved, so it's there the next time you open it.
Change the cut list settings
- Click Settings.
- Enter the Saw blade thickness (inches), from 0 to 1. You can type a decimal or a fraction, such as 0.125 or 1/8.
- Set the Optimization level. Higher levels may give better results but take longer.
- Click Regenerate cut list.
Regenerating the cut list replaces any parts you optimized one at a time.
Optimize one part
You can fine-tune one part, for example to use leftover pieces you already have.
- On the part's row, click Optimization.
- Under Optimization preference, choose Pick best cost or Pick best yield.
- Optionally, change the saw blade thickness and optimization level for this part.
- To use leftovers you have on hand, click Add drop under Usable drop inventory and enter the quantity, size, minimum yield and cost.
- To try other stock lengths, click Add stock size under Alternative stock length sizes and enter the quantity on hand and the Usable stock length (in). BidUnity fills in the Cost each from the length; you can change it.
- Click Optimize. BidUnity saves the result into that part's cutting instructions in the cut list.
- Check the Optimization results, which compare each stock size by stocks needed, yield, cost and drops used. Then click Close.
Glass lists
- Open the project, then open the proposal.
- Click the Glass tab.
- Choose a list:
| List | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Glass list itemized | Every piece of glass with its Item, Width, Height, Elevation and Location. |
| Glass list for quote | Pieces of the same size grouped, with Qty, Width and Height, to send to a glass supplier for pricing. |
| Glass list for order | Like the quote list, plus the Mark (the label for each piece), for placing the order. |
| Glass rack schedule | Glass grouped by type, with the number of pieces and total area, then a detail table for each type. |
In the Glass rack schedule, United length is the width plus the height of a piece. The Job total row adds up all glass types.
Reduce glass sizes
Glass is often cut a little smaller than the opening so it fits. On the Glass list for order and Glass rack schedule views, click the size menu and choose:
- Configured sizes: the sizes from the drawings.
- Reduce W, H by 1/16: width and height each 1/16 inch smaller.
- Reduce W, H by 1/8: width and height each 1/8 inch smaller.
If you change the units, the size goes back to Configured sizes.
