Create a proposal
Start a new proposal or copy an existing one, rename it later, or delete one you no longer need.
Who can do this: Anyone who can open the project. Field/shop workers can open only the projects they are scheduled for in the calendar.
A proposal is your priced offer for the glass and framing work on a project. You can start a new, empty proposal or copy one you already have. You can't add proposals to a closed project.
Start a new proposal
- Open the project and click Proposals in the project sidebar. You can also use New proposal on the project home page.
- Click New proposal.
- In Proposal name, type a name.
- Optionally, add a Description (optional).
- Click Create proposal.
The new proposal opens with the status Open. Next, add specifications and elevations.
Copy a proposal
Copy a proposal when you want a second version to change, for example with a different product or finish. You can copy a proposal with any status, including a finalized one.
- Open the proposal you want to copy.
- Click Actions, then Create a copy of this proposal.
- Enter a name and, optionally, a description for the copy.
- Click Create copy.
The copy opens when it's saved. It's a new Open proposal that you can change. It brings over the original's:
- Specifications and elevations, including doors
- Work types and labor settings
- Summary settings and margins
- Indirect costs (expenses that aren't parts or labor, such as equipment, travel or freight)
- Sales and use tax rates
- Proposal notes and terms and conditions
Rename a proposal
- Open the proposal.
- Click Actions, then Edit proposal name & description.
- Change the name or description.
- Click Update proposal.
You can rename a proposal at any status, as long as the project is open.
Delete a proposal
You can delete a proposal that isn't finalized yet, as long as the project is open. A finalized proposal can't be deleted. To take one out of play, reject it.
- Open the proposal.
- Click Actions, then Delete proposal.
- Click Delete proposal to confirm.
You can also delete it from the project's Proposals list: open the menu at the end of the proposal's row and click Delete proposal. The menu shows only for proposals that aren't finalized.
The proposal and everything in it, such as its specifications and elevations, are deleted, and you see "Proposal deleted". You can't undo this.
BidUnity won't delete the proposal, and shows a message saying why, when:
- the proposal is still being priced or finalized, or one of its elevations is still saving. Wait for it to finish, then try again.
- the proposal has requisitions, documents, glass schedules or tracked time linked to it.
Limits
- A proposal name is required and can be up to 70 characters. Each name must be unique within the project.
- A description can be up to 500 characters.
- A project can have up to 50 proposals. When it has 50, New proposal is turned off.
- You can delete only a proposal that isn't finalized. To take a finalized one out of play, reject it. Rejected proposals drop out of the default list, and you can restore them later. A proposal that isn't finalized can't be rejected. See Change a proposal's status.
Find a proposal
The project's Proposals page lists its proposals with their status, date created, proposal number, cost basis and proposed value. The list shows Active proposals at first. To see others, switch the filter to Rejected proposals or All proposals.
While you work in a proposal, the project sidebar also lists the project's active proposals under Proposals, so you can jump between them.
