Settings
Set proposal defaults
Cost display, default labor rates, default notes and visible sections for your proposals.
Who can do this: Company admins. Everyone else can view the proposal settings but can't change them.
Proposal settings holds your company's settings for proposals: how costs are shown to clients, how labor is priced, the notes each proposal starts with, and which sections clients can open. Some are starting values that new proposals copy. Others apply to all your proposals, as described under What happens next.
To open the page, go to Settings and click Proposal settings.
Change your proposal settings
- Under Proposal defaults, choose:
- Proposal cost display: Detailed costs shows clients the material, labor and other line item pricing. Lump sum shows one total price without the breakdown.
- Default labor method: Part labor prices labor from the labor already set up for each part. Elevation square feet prices labor from each elevation's square footage (an elevation is a drawing of one opening).
- Under Default labor rates, enter Field labor per hour, Shop labor per hour, Field labor per square foot and Shop labor per square foot. Each must be 0 or more.
- Under Default proposal notes, click Edit notes and write the notes every new proposal should start with, such as exclusions, clarifications or standard pricing language. You can use up to 25,000 characters.
- Under Proposal visibility, turn on the tabs your client should see on the online proposal page:
- Schedule of values: the Schedule of values tab, which breaks the price into line items used for billing.
- Product files: the Product files tab, with product file attachments.
- Labor durations: the Durations tab, which shows how long the labor will take.
- Click Save changes.
What happens next
- Default proposal notes are copied into each new proposal when it is created. Proposals you already created keep their notes.
- The Default labor method and Default labor rates are copied into a proposal when you add a specification with a system type the proposal doesn't have yet. You can change them on each proposal. See Price a proposal.
- Proposal cost display and the three Proposal visibility switches control what your client sees on the online proposal page. They apply to all your proposals, including ones you already sent, so a change shows the next time a client opens any of them. See Send a proposal.
