Browse, copy and edit systems

View system specs, copy a shared system and edit your company's systems.

A system is a vendor's product line, such as a storefront or curtain wall system. It combines product validations (tested and approved setups), components, parts and labor. BidUnity uses the system you choose on a specification to work out the parts and labor for each elevation.

Find a system

Who can do this: Everyone in your company.
  1. Click Catalog, then All systems.
  2. On Vendor systems, type in Search systems... to narrow the list. The table shows a picture of each system, the Vendor system, System type and Primary supplier. Your company's own systems have a Your company badge.
  3. Click a system to open it.

The list shows shared systems and your company's own systems, for the vendors selected for your company. You can also find a vendor's systems on the vendor's Vendor systems tab.

What the system page shows

The page shows the vendor, the system type and any notes under the system name.

The System info card lists the system's specs. All values are in inches.

GroupWhat it means
Frame dimensionsFace: the typical visible face width of the frame. Depth: the depth of the system.
Glass biteHow much bigger the glass is than the daylight opening (the clear opening you see through), across (Horizontal) and up and down (Vertical).
Shim spacesThe gap left between the rough opening and the frame on each side.
Receptor deductionsHow much is taken off each side for receptors (the channels the frame sits in).
Sealant dimensionsInterior height, Structural width and Structural depth of the sealant joints.
VinylAdd per foot: extra vinyl added for each foot of run.

The Product validations card lists the system's validations, each with its Document reference #, Approval authority and expiry date. Click one to open it. See Edit product validations and components.

Copy a system

Who can do this: Company admins.

Copy a system when you want to change one that is shared, or to start a new system from an existing one.

  1. Open the system.
  2. Click Copy system.
  3. Enter a unique name for the new system. It starts as the current name.
  4. Click OK.

If the name is taken, you see "There is already a system with that name. Please choose another name for the system."

What happens next

  • BidUnity copies the system with all of its product validations and components into your company.
  • You see "The vendor system was created", and the new system opens. You can now edit it.

Add a system

Who can do this: Company admins.
  1. Open the vendor and go to the Vendor systems tab.
  2. Click Create new configuration.
  3. Enter the System name and choose the System type. Add Notes if you like. The name can't match one of your company's systems or a shared system, in any mix of capitals.
  4. Under System specs, enter the values in inches: Typical system face, System depth, the four shims, the four receptor deductions, Interior sealant height, Structural sealant width, Structural sealant depth, Add per foot vinyl, Actual glass height minus daylight height and Actual glass width minus daylight width. You can type a decimal or a fraction, such as 1.25 or 1-1/4. The last two can be negative, for example -1/8.
  5. Click Save system.

You see "The vendor system was created". New systems always belong to your company. Next, add product validations to it.

If the name is taken, you see "There is already a system with that name. Please choose another name for the system."

Edit or remove a system

Who can do this: Company admins, for their own company's systems.
  1. Open the system.
  2. Click Edit system.
  3. Make your changes and click Save system.

To remove the system, click Remove, then Remove again to confirm.

You can't remove a system that any proposal still uses. BidUnity tells you how many uses it found, for example "This system can't be deleted because it is used by 2 specifications and 5 elevations."

Removing a system that isn't in use deletes it and all of its product validations. This can't be undone.

Add a picture

Who can do this: Company admins, for their own company's systems.
  1. Open the system.
  2. Click Add picture and choose an image of 5 MB or less.

To replace it, click Change picture. To delete it, click Remove picture, then Remove picture again to confirm.
