Write field reports
Daily field reports, production events and field progress reports.
Who can do this: Anyone who can open the project. Field/shop workers can open only the projects they are scheduled for in the calendar.
The Reports tab records what happens on the jobsite. There are three kinds of report:
- A daily field report records the day's work, crew, weather, site conditions and inspections.
- A production event records a coordination meeting or something that held up the work.
- A field progress report records how much of each specification is done and what is in the way.
Reports can't be edited or deleted after you save them. To correct a field progress report, file a new one.
See past reports
- Open the project and go to Reports.
- Use the toggle to pick Daily reports, Production events or Field progress reports.
| List | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Daily reports | Report, Site snapshot (crew, weather, temperature and the three ratings), Inspection and safety, and Daily summary. |
| Production events | Date, Submitted by, Report type, Cause or director, Total lost time, Notes and Photos. |
| Field progress reports | As of, Filed, By, Specifications counted, Unverified hours, Constraints and Time on site. Click a report's date to open it. |
Where a report has a photo link, click Open photos or Open to view the shared photos.
Daily field reports and production events also show as summaries on the Notes tab, where your team can reply to them. See Add project notes.
Write a daily field report
- On Reports, click Daily field report.
- Under Daily notes, fill in:
- Note safety concerns to be addressed (optional).
- Description of today's production events: the work done and anything that slowed it. This is required.
- Under Crew production, move each slider away from the middle if the day was not normal. A line under each slider describes the setting you picked.
- Production efficiency: how much the crew got done, from much less to much more than normal.
- Job site cleanliness: from messy enough to delay production to clean enough to help it.
- Trade congestion: how crowded the work area was with other trades, from crowded enough to delay production to no other trades on site.
- Under Site conditions, fill in:
- Number of crew (1 to 100).
- Weather conditions: Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Cloudy, Brief Precipitation, Intermittent Precipitation or Steady Precipitation.
- Average temperature, in degrees Fahrenheit.
- Inspection: No inspections today, Passed all inspections today or Did not pass all inspections today.
- Notes for inspections (optional): what an upcoming inspection needs, or why one failed.

- Click Save.
The text boxes take up to 250 characters each.
Record a production event
- On Reports, click Production event.
- Pick the Report type:
- Coordination meeting records instructions you were given. Fill in Who provided instruction and That person's project role (Superintendent, Project manager or Other - described in notes).
- Progress report records something that held up the work. Fill in the fields below.
- For a Progress report:
- Scope of work: the part of the job affected, or Multiple scopes.
- Type of delay, then Type of cause for the delay. The causes listed depend on the type of delay.
- Start hour, Start minute and AM / PM: when the delay started.
- Duration hours and Duration minutes: how long it lasted. Enter more than zero.

- Who is responsible (optional): the person and company, if you know them.
- Fill in Description of event (required, up to 350 characters) and, optionally, Link to shared photos.

For a progress report, Total lost time in the list is the duration times the number of workers. For example, a 2-hour delay for 3 workers shows as 6h.
Types of delay and their causes
| Type of delay | Causes |
|---|---|
| Ordinary | Lacking Information, Lacking Material, Internal Coordination, Lacking Equipment, Rework Mistakes |

| Third Party | Coordination, Openings Not Ready, Damage by Others, Other Third Party |
| Unforeseen | Substrate Type, Condition, Disorganized Delivery, Incorrect Material, Other Delay |
File a field progress report
A field progress report records how much of each specification is complete, what is blocking the work, and which crews are ready to start. A specification is one priced part of the proposal, such as a storefront system. The report counts the specifications on the proposal you last marked Price Awarded. If there is none, the page shows Nothing to count yet. Mark a proposal as Price Awarded first. See Change a proposal's status.
- On Reports, click New field progress report.
- Check the tiles at the top: Unverified hours worked since the last report, Man-days worked, Man-days reserved with this report applied, and At completion next to the proposed man-days. A man-day is one worker's full day. Under the tiles you see when the last report was verified and by whom.
- Under What is done, for each specification you counted, enter the total complete so far in Counted so far. Use the slider or type a number. Enter the running total, not today's amount. If the specification has both openings and square feet, pick the Unit first.
- To count a single activity of the specification, open Count by activity and click the activity to add a line for it.
- Under Why this number, pick any reasons that apply: Counted on site, Access restricted, Material short, Rework required, Detail unresolved, Running better than budget or Running worse than budget.
- Optionally, describe what you saw in What I saw.
- Under What is in the way, click Add constraint for each thing blocking the work. Pick what it is, the Specification, the Activity it blocks, the Expected clear date and a Detail. The choices are Material not on site, Area not available, Detail unresolved, Inspection pending, Rework required, Weather and Equipment not available.
- Under Starting next, tick each specification whose crew you briefed and whose first opening you walked.
- Review What this report changes at the office. For each specification, it shows the man-days Proposed, On record and in This report, and the Change in man-days.
- Under Sign off, check the As of date and fill in Time on site (h), Next visit due and Anything the office should know.
- Click Submit report.
BidUnity checks that:
- You entered at least one count.
- The As of date is not in the future.
- Next visit due is not before the As of date.
- Time on site (h) is between 0 and 24.
To read a filed report, click its date in the Field progress reports list. The report shows the sign-off details, the counts, the constraints, the crews starting next and the note to the office.
