Add project notes

Post notes with text or images, reply to notes, and read report summaries in the timeline.

Who can do this: Anyone who can open the project. Field/shop workers can open only the projects they are scheduled for in the calendar.

The Notes tab is a running conversation about the project. Anyone in your company who can open the project can read every note. People outside your company never see them.

Post a note

  1. Open the project and go to Notes.
  2. Type in the Save a new comment or paste an image... box. A note can be up to 5,000 characters. Web addresses become links.
  3. To add images, do any of these:
    • Paste an image into the box.
    • Click Attach images (the image icon next to Comment) and choose one or more images.
    • Drag images from your computer anywhere onto the Notes page. While you drag, the page shows Drop images to attach them to the note.
  4. Click Comment.

A note can have text, images or both. Comment stays grayed out while images are still uploading. To take an image off before you post, click the X on its thumbnail.

A note can have up to 20 images. If you add more, BidUnity keeps the first 20 and shows "A note can have at most 20 photos". Each image must be an image file of 25 MB or less.

Your note goes to the top of the timeline, with your name and the date and time. Its images show under the text. Click one to open it full screen.

Images you post with a note are also saved to the project's Photos tab. See Add project photos.

Reply to a note

  1. Under the note, click reply.
  2. Type your reply.
  3. Click Reply.

Replies show under the note, oldest first. Click Cancel to close the reply box without posting.

Notes and replies can't be edited or deleted after you post them.

Report summaries in the timeline

The timeline, newest first, also shows a short summary of each daily field report and production event filed on the Reports tab:

  • A daily field report summary starts with DAILY REPORT. It shows the crew size, any safety concerns, inspection results and the day's description, plus any ratings that were not normal. It ends with the photo link or NO PHOTOS PROVIDED.
  • A production event summary starts with PRODUCTION REPORT. It shows the cause, the description and the total time lost. It also ends with the photo link or NO PHOTOS PROVIDED.

You can reply to a report summary the same way as a note. Field progress reports don't show in the timeline. To write reports, see Write field reports.
